Fitbit Charge 4 Review

Smartwatches mainly dominate wearable technology. There are a few companies that offer these fantastic devices in a fitness tracker form factor. If you’re looking for one of the best fitness trackers available in the market right now, the Fitbit Charge 4 offers all you need for your daily fitness needs. Fitbit doesn’t need to introduce themselves to this product. They are known to provide fitness trackers that are loved by customers worldwide. The Fitbit Charge 4 fixes all that the previous version needed. It is an upgraded and newest version of the Fitbit Charge. Even though it’s the latest version, the price point is still the same as the previous Fitbit Charge. A built-in GPS feature is handy for fitness tracking. Fitbit Pay is also standard on all models. Consider buying this fitness tracker if you want a more advanced fitness tracker smartwatch in your collection.

The Design

The Fitbit Charge 4 design is the same as the previous version’s design. It features a small tracker module that lets you connect to several straps. You can personalize your Fitbit with available attractive straps that are readily available in the market. The Charge 4 works with Charge 3 straps, so you don’t need new straps for this one. The color options available are Rosewood and Black. Each of the models comes with large and small straps right out of the box. The aluminum chassis ensures a waterproof design and lightweight for your wrist.

Fitbit Charge 4’s display is the same one as the one found in Charge 3. The Charge 4 uses a monochrome OLED display. It is big enough to show your notifications and activity statistics. It’s big enough that it does not look cramped when messages show. Viewing the screen outdoors is comfortable and bright, with no significant problems when viewed in direct sunlight. This fitness smartwatch has a touchscreen display for an easy interface.

Navigating the Charge 4 software is by tapping and swiping. There is an inductive button on the watch’s left side if you want to go back or launch Fitbit Pay. Do note that it is not as good as traditional physical buttons. It doesn’t work all the time. This feature can sometimes be a hassle, especially if you’re running and need to use your Fitbit Charge 4.

The battery life is the same when compared to the previous versions. The Fitbit Charge 4’s battery can last up to seven days on a single charge. If the GPS is on, it can last for five days. The battery can last up to a week if you don’t use the GPS often.

Fitness Tracking Features

Fitbit Charge 4 is one of the most feature-packed fitness smartwatches you can buy today. It has a competitive price for its features. Fitbit Charge 4’s update features are from the feedback from its users. A new and most requested feature is the built-in GPS. Customers of this product have been asking Fitbit to include a GPS, and it is now available with this version. You don’t need your phone’s GPS every time you go out for a run. A total of seven fitness activity modes is available for built-in GPS. It includes walking, running, cycling, hiking, and outdoor workout mode for other various activities. Charge 4 also can only hold six activity shortcuts. If you want to track swimming, you need to delete a shortcut to add it. It might be annoying to do, but it’s not a significant setback for this smartwatch,

The built-in GPS also does take time before every fitness activity. Users of the Fitbit Charge 4 reported that they needed to wait an extra five minutes to get a “Connecting” Screen. A new update for this smartwatch lets you connect this to your phone’s GPS. Switch between Fitbit’s GPS or your Phone’s GPS so you can save battery or want a faster GPS connectivity. Fitbit calls this feature “Dynamic GPS.”

An “Automatic Run Detection” is a helpful feature for this fitness smartwatch. If you forget to select an activity, Charge 4 will start detecting what exercise you do. An auto-pause mode will automatically pause recording your stats if it senses you have stopped moving. The Fitbit Charge 4’s heart rate sensor is the same as the one as the previous model. Charge 4 will notify you if it detects a change in your heart rate zone. It vibrates every time it senses it. Buzzing happens when you are entering the fat burn zone. It will then buzz two times when entering the cardio zone and three times for the peak zone. This feature might not be for everyone, as it can be annoying when you’re doing an intense workout. You can disable this feature in the settings menu if you want undisturbed activities.

The Fitbit Charge 4 has an Sp02 sensor. What this does is it records your blood oxygen levels while you sleep. You get an oxygen variation graph in the sleep menu of the Fitbit app. This feature is excellent if you want to know if you have sleeping disorders like apnea.

Smartwatch Features

A newly developed sleep mode for the Charge 4 lets you disable the screen and notifications for scheduled sleep time. You can set it to turn off or on at the start of every hour. A smart wake feature wakes you up at the ideal time so you can feel recharged.

The smartwatch relays the app notifications from your smartphone, control Spotify, and show the weather. Spotify comes preinstalled on this watch, but it only lets you control the app for your phone.

All Charge 4 models have Fitbit pay. It is a change from the Charge 3, wherein the special edition only gets this feature. Fitbit Pay is a convenient feature as the contactless payment service is available in many banks and various transit payment systems worldwide.

Verdict

Fitbit Charge 4 is one of the best fitness trackers you can buy today. It comes at an affordable price without sacrificing the features that you need in your daily workout. It fixed all of the lacking features and problems that went with the Charge 3. Level up your fitness and health with this excellent fitness tracker companion. Fitbit Charge 4 stands out as one of the best fitness trackers available in the market right now.
