Smart scales are becoming indispensable for keeping track of your fitness progress. In addition, they give an accurate reading of key indicators like BMI and body fat percentage. This provides a better picture of your overall health and allows you to tweak your gym routine or diet accordingly.
But a truly smart scale goes one step further with full-on fitness app integration. There are a few such models in the market. At first glance, some of them might seem quite similar. But there are always differences in build quality, accuracy, price, and more. Let’s find out what the Yunmai Premium smart scale is about.
First of all, it has smartphone app integration as is expected of all smart scales. The scale is priced at the higher end of the spectrum, though not exactly an arm and a leg. On the other hand, Yunmai is an unknown Chinese brand, but let’s allow the scale itself to do the talking, shall we?
Who is this for?
You would be hard-pressed to find a person who wouldn’t benefit from the Yunmai smart scale. At first, it might seem that this model is designed to cater primarily to tech-savvy users. And it does offer the most if you use it with a smartphone app, but you don’t actually need the app for the basic readings.
In addition, the setup is so simple you could easily teach your grandma how to use it. From fitness enthusiasts and professionals to whole families, the Yunmai scale is suitable for all.
Note: According to the manufacturer, this scale is not for pregnant women and those with pacemakers. And the calculations may not be accurate for underage users.
Like with most smart scales, what you see is pretty much what you get. The package includes the scale itself, four AAA batteries, and a user manual. Putting the batteries inside the scale is all the assembly required.
Other than that, it should take you only a few seconds to set up the Yunmai Premium and connect it to your smartphone. Of course, you’ll have to download and install the app first.
Overview of features
To truly appreciate the features that make the Yunmai special, let’s go over all the details.
To begin with, Yunmai is an FDA-listed scale which attests to its precision and reliability. In addition, there are two sets of four high-end bioelectric impedance sensors. They allow the scale to accurately measure and analyze weight, bone mass, body and visceral fat, and water levels. It also gives body age estimations together with protein, BMI, and BMR.
The Yunmai wouldn’t be a smart scale without the Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and app integration. Besides the native Yunmai app, it also works with apps like Fitbit, Apple Health, Google Fit, and more. As of this writing, this excludes S Health. But future firmware updates may allow for the S Health integration as well.
In addition to connectivity, the Yunmai smart scale sports a 24-bit conversion chip. For comparison, most standard scales come with a 12-bit chip. It’s not hard to understand that 24-bit is much faster and the chip is designed to consume as little power as possible.
Other useful features are the overall design and durability. The top plate is made of break-resistant glass with a conductive ITO coating. This goes well with the curved bottom shell and adds to the scale’s aesthetics. On top of that, this model is quite compact at 12.9 x 12.9 x 1.2 inches. There are two colors to choose from, black and white.
The Yunmai Premium smart scale features a 4-inch LCD display. It is round, backlight, and fully embedded in the body. The display shows only weight and body fat percentage. You’ll need the app to calculate the other readings. It would be nice if the display was bigger, but that would mean building the app and additional circuitry into the unit.
How to use Yunmai Premium Smart Scale
As previously hinted, this smart scale is super simple to use. Once you put the batteries in, download and install the Yunmai 2.0 app (for iOS and Android). Then you need to create a user profile within the app.
This means putting in your name, age, gender, and height. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and get on the scale barefooted. In about two seconds, you should be able to see your weight on both the scale’s display and the smartphone app. For more readings, swipe down the app and tap on the graph icon next to the desired measurement to get a visual representation.
You can add more users to the app by tapping on Me and selecting Family Members. The “Me” menu also gives you the option to further customize settings and sync to Apple Health or Fitbit.
The Yunmai is a great smart scale indeed, but there is there is something else that can give it a serious run for its money. That would be the Eufy Smart Scale.
Like the Yunmai, the Eufy scale has Bluetooth and a dedicated app. It’s interesting that the Eufy also comes in black or white. However, it is capable of up to 20 user profiles – compared to the Yunmai’s 16. In addition, the Eufy is a bit more affordable.
Both scales share a similar downside. Namely, the display shows little information besides the weight. The idea is to get you using the app instead of fooling around with the scale. But the Eufy’s display is slightly bigger so some users might find it a bit easier to read.
You shouldn’t think twice about adding a smart scale to your arsenal of fitness gadgets. The Yunmai Premium is truly one of the best options available. It has an optimal balance of connectivity, accuracy, and overall build quality.
And don’t forget that this scale allows you to keep tabs on the body measurements of your entire family so that everyone can have a better grasp of their health.
